Jim has the ability to play authentically in styles such as, jazz, blues, folk, country, bluegrass, gypsy, Celtic and classical music, drawing much inspiration from his beloved musical hero’s, Wes Montgomery, Wynton Marsalis, David Grisman, and Ry Cooder.
Jim has a moderate level of formal music education, with a solid understanding of music harmony and a flair for improvisation. Awards include Bachelor of the Arts degree with music major from Griffith University, and a Diploma in Jazz from the Jazz Music Institute.
Previously worked in the music industry for over a decade, in marketing, communications and developmental roles with Jazz Queensland Inc. and also Qmusic (Qld Music Network). Jim has played a key role in the development of music events in Qld including, Valley Jazz Festival, Brisbane Jazz Festival, Qld Music Awards, Bigsound, Valley Fiesta, Brisbane Festival and many more discreet live music initiatives and programs.
The Bizarrely Quartet is the name for a collective of musicians based in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland who come together to perform in their own unique and playful style of folk-rock, drawing on the combination of their diverse musical backgrounds.
